To be, or not to be - that is the question.
To be or not to be the courageous one to speak what you truly mean and make it known to the public?
Just today, I was having quite a meaningful conversation with someone and gathered much insight about the current music scene in Singapore. It makes me wonder if we've really gotten the right people to take certain respected positions. And if not, why aren't they brought up to the surface about what they really can do and what they cannot do, for all's in the interest of the Singapore arts scene.
And so it seems that me missing out on Vengerov wasn't really a big deal since it wasn't a very pleasant night for some. Undoubtly, Vengerov did steal the limelight. But still, it could have been a much better concert if an element of the performance was up to standard. Well, then again, what's "up to standard"? Hard to define? Yes, indeed, but frequent patrons of various concerts should know.
Sometimes it's sad to think that even Singaporeans are hopping over the causeway for hope of better concerts, better performances. And guess what? They really do get what they expect. So what's all the artistes doing in Singapore? Time to get moving before we all get thrown offboard. Time to make a bigger boom for Singapore's arts scene other than building the ever so wonderful Esplanade. What's an expensive and technically superb empty shell until it's filled with some intellect?
So who's going to BE the ONE to voice their true opinions?
A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies.
